First look at the scene, these are hard working people in a struggle to make ends meet,

and in a  struggle against the elements .Look at the young and old woman's shoes,working shoes , their clothes- working clothes , against this the young woman's white apron ,trying her best to be clean.

    Then the news at the post office of a boat lost at sea- her young man is "Amongst the Missing " a hard life is made even harder , your heart goes out to her and can easily bring you to tears.It is a picture of the people, by the people, for the people ,beautifully drawn and painted ,making it one of the worlds greatest paintings of the human condition.
